Andre E. Johnson, the creator and editor of Rhetoric Race and Religion, is a professor at Memphis Theological Seminary. To use his formal title, he’s the Dr. James L. Netters Associate Professor of Rhetoric & Religion and African American Studies.
In other words, Dr. Johnson knows his stuff. When he writes about “the intersection of rhetoric, race and religion,” it’s always thoughtful, meaty, provocative and insightful.
Alas, Johnson himself doesn’t write very often, but his own essays are supplemented by frequent teasers and links to posts and articles elsewhere.
And, even better, his own writing is bolstered by posts from a terrific team of contributors and guest writers — about three dozen of them.
I recognized a few of those names before I started reading R3 — folks like Carol Howard Merritt and Crystal St. Marie Lewis — but most of those contributors are writers and voices I might not have found if Johnson weren’t sharing his platform with them. For a good sampling of their writing, see this year-end round-up “The 2013 Top Posts From Our Contributors.”
