A moveable feast

A moveable feast April 12, 2020

“Jesus said unto her, ‘Touch me not …'” — John 20:17

Easter Sunday is a moveable feast and that’s going to be more true this year than most.

The safest, most loving, Easter-iest thing we should be doing right now is staying home. We can “do” Easter later, do it properly once this thing’s under control and there’s a vaccine.

That doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate — separately — or that we can’t all sing and pray and worship and praise wherever this quarantined Easter Sunday finds us. But we shouldn’t be gathering and we shouldn’t be going to church.

Most years I post the same message here on Easter Sunday: “Olly olly oxen free!” But it’s not time for that yet this year. This year, perhaps, it’s better to sit a while longer in the dreadful uncertainty of Holy Saturday, hoping that rebirth and renewal awaits us sometime later.

His is risen, indeed. But stay safe and love your neighbors by staying home.
