A Family That Camps Together, Shares Together
RV travel has reached record levels, and one of the reasons is that families find not only a more affordable way to travel—but a better mode for reconnecting with the kids. “It’s more stressful than ever to be kids,” said Dave Simmons of Mighway, the “Airbnb of RVs.” “They are bombarded with so much information, so finding ways to get them out of their environment and offline is a key way to reconnecting with them.”
Simmons travels with his kids in an RV “because it’s a wonderful way to get them offline and re-oriented with the family. In over 30 years of RV camping, I’ve found it to be a very effective and enjoyable way to reconnect with kids of all ages.” He recommended banning TV and electronics to keep kids in the moment. Stock the RV or camper with board games, and tell stories or sing songs around the campfire.
“It’s amazing how the kids quickly get over the withdrawal symptoms and then start to really enjoy the RVing lifestyle, the great outdoors, the camping ground, etc.,” Simmons said. “Kids remember how to enjoy simple pleasures such as spotting roasting marshmallows and making smores. Or enjoying God’s theme park – nature!”
