Humility! Easy to say hard to practice? Probably. What I find most helpful in thinking of humility is the dictum that humility is the recognition of truth. Let’s combine that with the earlier thought that we most see pride in holding on to ourselves and clinging to our images of ourselves. This combination suggests we will most easily find humility when we look for the truths of others. How they have suffered, the good they have done, what they say for themselves when we listen first, instead of speaking. But too often we look to others not in humility but in measuring ourselves against them. This competitiveness can quickly devolve into. . .
