One of the many unanticipated consequences of having a large, young family is being forced to recognize that weekends are not for resting.
Perhaps it is more accurate to say that it was unanticipated by me, which means we now know exactly where I fall on the “man who desires to get married should know either everything or nothing” scale. But the fact remains: weekends are not for resting. Sometimes, I feel that I’m heading off to work on Monday so that I can recover from my weekends. (My wife, sadly, is not so fortunate. No rest for the weary, as they say.)
This weekend was particularly jam-packed, featuring a number of projects in anticipation of Susanka Seven’s arrival. For me, that means a couple of days moving furniture to and from the boys’ rooms. And steam cleaning. Don’t worry; no one got hurt. (Except maybe my pride, which can always do with a bit of bruising.)
There was also the bi-annual Name Convention, which consists primarily of the ever-patient Sarah proposing names that she likes and my rejecting nearly all of them. There’s one in every family, right? Also, Christmas presents. And the ever-present Susankas 1-6.
Anyone else wilting under the effects of a crazy-busy weekend in addition to what is already a crazy-busy life? I’ve got a cure for that.
It’s called “Staring at Antelope Canyon with My Mouth Open.” And it’ll calm you right down. I promise.
Want to see more? “LoveThesePics” has a great assortment of equally spectacular, calm-inducing snaps. I highly recommend it. (Bonus feature for the inveterate cinophile: I’m pretty sure the Antelope made a brief appearance in Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life. I’d recognize that slot canyon anywhere.)
