What does Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity look like? February 2, 2016

While out and about over the weekend, my family and I saw a ton of people dressed in white heading towards a huge crowd of more folks dressed in white. We didn’t know what was going on…until the Seattle Times posted a beautiful photo essay about a 6-church celebration of Epiphany by local Ethiopian Orthodox churches.

The two-day holiday, called Timket, serves as a celebration of the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by John the Baptist.

Check out the photos here.

Fascinatingly, Ethiopian Orthodoxy predates colonialism in Ethiopia.
