WATCH: Senator Ted Cruz Gives Mike Lee a Rousing Endorsement for Supreme Court Nominee June 27, 2018

This would be amazing.

Ok, we’re going to continue exploring the news of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s Tuesday announcement that he would be stepping down, after three decades on the bench.

Justice Kennedy’s retirement kicks in on July 31. President Trump is expected to announce his nominee to fill that spot immediately after.

For conservatives, it’s an exciting time, because for the first time in a long while, conservative justices will make up the majority of SCOTUS seats.

For fanatical lefties, the wailing and gnashing of teeth has been glorious. They’re whipping themselves into a fevered frenzy over the thought of all their nasty goodies, like abortion being taken from them.

And nobody has brought up the Second Amendment and how they can kiss their gun-grabbing fever dreams goodbye.

Why, the day after a new, conservative justice is appointed, they’ll be selling handguns in vending machines at elementary schools!

Ok. I’m just stirring the pot, now.

Putting the histrionics of the Chicken Littles of the left aside, the question becomes who is the likely nominee?

President Trump has said that he’ll announce someone from the same list that he chose Neil Gorsuch from, so he can’t really make a “bad” choice.

One of the names on the list is that of Utah Senator Mike Lee.

His friend, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was on Fox News earlier Tuesday to give Lee a bit of buildup, in the event the president is listening.

“I think the single best choice President Trump could make to fill this vacancy is Sen. Mike Lee,” Cruz said on Fox News shortly after Kennedy’s announcement. “I think he would be extraordinary.”

Cruz said that part of his reasoning for supporting Lee is because he knows that Lee would continue to advocate for conservative positions.

“About half of the nominees that Republican presidents have put on the court have turned into train wrecks, have turned into liberal activists,” Cruz said. “I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Mike Lee would be faithful to the Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

I have to say I believe the same. Mike Lee was be an excellent choice to send to the Supreme Court. He has proven to be a consistent, principled conservative, while in the Senate.

I do worry about leaving that Senate seat open, but what about Lee, himself? Is he even interested?

He is.

Lee, who, like Cruz, sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, told reporters on Wednesday that he would not “say no” if Trump asked him to succeed Kennedy on the bench.

“I started watching Supreme Court arguments for fun when I was 10 years old. So if somebody asked me if I would consider that, I would not say no,” Lee said. “But the president’s got a decision to make and I trust his ability to make it and make it well.”

As I pointed out, he’s got a solid list, given to him last year by the Heritage Foundation. He only screws this up if he chooses to drift away from the path that others have laid out for him.
