So now the question becomes: Are the packages with potentially explosive devices being constructed and sent by one crazed individual, or is this the work of a group?
The early hours of Thursday bring news of more packages, more targets.
The latest reports of suspicious packages come out of Delaware, where former Vice President Joe Biden was apparently the intended recipient, and downtown Manhattan, with actor Robert De Niro (an outspoken critic of Donald Trump) as the addressee.
NBC News reports:
The package addressed to Biden was discovered at a postal facility in New Castle, Delaware, officials said. They suspected Wednesday that the package was somewhere within the postal system.
A building worker in New York called authorities around 4 a.m. about the package addressed to De Niro, an official said. The employee called because after seeing news reports about other pipe bombs, he remembered seeing the suspicious package a day or two earlier, the official said.
That package was found at 375 Greenwich Street, the site of the restaurant Tribeca Grill, which De Niro co-owns, and the offices of De Niro’s film and television production company, Tribeca Productions. There was no need to evacuate because the building was empty, police said.
This is insane.
On Monday of this week, the first of this series of disturbing packages was placed in or near the mailbox of far left billionaire investor and source of every right wing nightmare, George Soros.
On Wednesday, what began as one of those uneasy, troublesome reports of some crazy person targeting a public figure evolved into something more insidious.
The news cycle burned hot with reports of devices described by authorities as “rudimentary, but functional” arriving at the home of former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, at a Washington, D.C. address, with former President Barack Obama as the intended target, and at the Time Warner Center, which is the headquarters of CNN News.
Throughout the day, CNN switched its broadcast from its Washington bureau to the streets outside of the Time Warner Center, where staff had been evacuated when the device was found in the mail room.
It was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, care of CNN.
Brennan doesn’t work for CNN.
Later in the day, California Representative Maxine Waters received one of the devices in the mail.
There was also a package addressed to former Attorney General Eric Holder. It ended up at the Florida office of former DNC chairwoman, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
That was another oddity of the packages. The return address was listed as her Winterhaven, Florida office. Because the address for Holder was incorrect, her office got his package in a “return to sender” situation.
I’m pretty sure Wasserman-Schultz did not send those packages.
Another oddity that a lot of Trump devotees jumped on, in an attempt to change the narrative from this being a crazed Trump supporter to some kind of “false flag” was the image CNN posted of the package they received.
It was stamped, but there was no postmark.
Rather than the “A-HA” moment they craved, an explanation was forthcoming.
Apparently, that particular package was hand-delivered by courier, rather than mailed.
Just know that if you’re around Greenwich Street in Manhattan today, there is going to be a heavy police presence, and probably crazy traffic.
All of the devices are apparently the same. All of the packages have Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’ return address.
The FBI has them and they are currently in Quantico for analysis.
They’ll catch whoever is behind this, soon. I’m not going to say “soon enough,” however. That needed to happen after the first one was discovered.
