I Wish I Could . . .

True confession: there were many years of my life when I wished that I could sing like Sandi Patty. 

Please just keep your snickers to a minimum, give me credit for no longer wearing leg warmers, and admit that she does have a very beautiful voice.  I concede that it is kind of embarrassing, but you know there’s dirt on you somewhere, too. 

Thank goodness I moved past my Sandi Patty phase (which, by the way was in Junior High) and now am coveting the talents of other, cooler people.  Caroline Armijo, Calvary member and definitely one of those people, has taken on another art project that makes me want to discover the inner artistic muse that must be somewhere in me.  This time she’s creating as a spiritual practice for Lent in a project called 40 Forts.

Beyond her beautiful artistic expression, I am again moved, as I am by the reflections of so many in the Calvary community, by Caroline’s willngness to think and dialogue about the spiritual landscape of her life.

This Lent I am watching Caroline create 40 Forts, mumbling “I wish I could . . .” again to myself, and resolving to reflect a little bit each day this Lent on how it is God is speaking to me.

I promise not to sing.
