Rampant tolerance has run its course in Europe

Jeff Jarvis reports that unchecked rampant “tolerance,” forcefully propelled by western guilt, has finally hit a wall in Europe.

The pendulum has swung too far. Europe has caught on, and is setting about making corrections, fine-tuning the thing. We in America had better get to it, too. A very great and beloved friend of mine – a schoolteacher – admonished me last week with the sophistry that “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”

I love my friend, but this knee-jerk habit of implying that bin Laden is the equivalent of John Adams has got to stop. Seems it is beginning to, in Europe.

We must hope, of course, that all correctings-of-over-swung-pendulums are not clumsy and over-enthusiastic but deft and discerning. For all of our sakes.
