Whaddya mean, “shoot to kill?”

We were just fooling around! You don’t have to go all gunslinger on us! Whaddya mean “shoot to kill?” Can’t you people take a freakin’ joke? Why you targeting us, anyway?

I can understand how moderate Muslims who are not involved with the gang rapes in Australia, the murders of filmmakers, the blowing up of innocent people in buildings, carnivals, markets, subway tubes, etc might be uncomfortable with a “shoot to kill” policy. I can understand it.

But maybe if they get a little concerned for their own safety, finally, they might start cracking down on their cracked-up brethren.

Maybe if they start denouncing clerics who preach jihad and long to … see the Islamic flag fly, not only over number 10 Downing Street, but over the whole world, and making an effort to tame their monsters, they won’t have to worry about orders to “shoot to kill.” (H/T Jeanette)

I’m sorry to put it so bluntly. The fear of innocent Muslims does not fill me with joy.

But I’m tired of having to note the fear of innocent non-Muslims who merely want to go about their day-to-day lives without wondering if they’re gong to be blown sky-high, too.

To clarify: I certainly don’t want to see innocent people “gunned down.” For that matter I don’t want to see guilty people “gunned down.” I’d prefer to see them arrested and tried.

That said, this is the first time we’ve seen anything like fear or concern being expressed by Muslim folks – and it is real fear, based on a real set of circumstances. Perhaps a little fear might be what is needed to get some action, finally, from within the moderate Muslim communities. We have been waiting for them to finally start clamping down. It’s time, folks. It’s time.
