To be honest, I’m not much of a cake-eater. Regular readers know I am a big fan of ice cream, though, and I won’t wrinkle my nose at cookies, either, as my thighs will testify.
But I am utterly charmed by this fellow Warren Brown, (and his, admittedly, delicious-looking cakes) who is featured over at Cake-Eater LaShawn’s place.
Look at that face and that smile! That’s a man who is successful because he clearly loves what he is doing – and loving what you do is the key (I am convinced) to success, good health and a long life.
Our lives are not accidents, and we’re all gifted with something that is peculiar to ourselves, alone. We all come alive through our passions, which usually involve the gifts we have been given. Warren Brown was a lawyer who wrote cake recipes on his way to work. Now, he’s doing what he loves.
I suspect that the things we love to do are the things we are born to do, meant to do – our vocations. When we are doing what we love to do, time loses all meaning – when I’m writing, I could do it for six hours straight, look up at the clock and swear to you that I’ve only been at it for 40 minutes. When we do what we love, we stand outside of time, and touch the Eternal – the Source of the spark. And then we know joy.
I’m not a cake-eater. But if I am ever in the neighborhood, I’m going to stop by Warren Brown’s cake shop, and eat a cupcake or something, just to get a taste of his own Divine Spark!
