Via Link Mecca (via Michelle Malkin):

From AP“When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I’m talking about,” Clinton, D-N.Y., told the crowd at the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem. “It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard.”

From USA Today:
Speaking during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event, Clinton also offered an apology to a group of Hurricane Katrina survivors “on behalf of a government that left you behind, that turned its back on you.”

Unfortunate demagoguery. Also textbook projection. We’ve watched Michael Steele, who dares to be black and conservative, get pelted by Oreo cookies, and endure shamefully racist graphics by folks who feel justified in doing it because he dared to “step off the Democrat plantation” and think for himself. Ditto Condi Rice.

Projection: when one attributes to another those negative traits or ideas which exist within oneself.

Unfortunate. Someday, Martin Luther King will actually see his dream come true, and people will be judged not by the color of their skin, but on the content of their character. But that will never happen as long as politicians continue to see voters not as men and women but as ethnic groups and genders and persuasions. And it will never happen as long as an electorate consents to being seen as a race, or a gender or a persuasion, rather than as persons.

As to this particuarly low demagoguery…

No one in Congress has a chance to present legislation? To make an argument? To be heard? Really? What legislation has not been allowed to be presented, Hillary? Who has prevented you, or anyone in your party, from making argument after argument, from obstruction to obstruction? How, Hillary, has anyone on your side not had the opportunity to be heard? Aside from inciting anger, can you cite an instance? Please?

How can you apologize on behalf of “a government that left you behind…” when you’re part of the government? Did YOU leave them behind? WHO got left behind, exactly? WHO exactly are you addressing and what are you actually saying to them, that what we know to be true is really false?

HOW did they get “left behind”? You mean all this stuff wasn’t really done?

Red meat – lots of red meat being tossed out – but ultimately empty, meaningless rhetoric that, as usual, means nothing and withstands no scrutiny.

Unfortunate demagoguery. Unfortunately, demagoguery is not statesmanship. It’s not leadership, either. And it heals nothing. It redeems no one.

And Martin Luther King was not about unrelenting negativity. As the Democrats who wiretapped his phone should know.

Hillary won’t be called on this by the msm, though. She never is.

Kobayashi Maru has excellent thoughts on MLK day, and nice links.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin in her own update, suggests that Hillary’s campaign theme is “I will be your second black president.” Read the update to find out what demands some in her audience are making.

Also, Gateway Pundit brings up Al Sharpton’s remarks at this same gathering. I’ve heard it suggested that Sharpton is patiently doing Hillary’s bidding – and will continue to do so, all around the country, rounding up and “guarenteeing” the black vote – because he has been promised Hillary’s senate seat when she vacates to “ascend” to the White House and Gov. Spitzer appoints her successor. Egad. It couldn’t actually be true, could it?
