O Great Mystery…

O Great Mystery… 2017-03-17T00:50:07+00:00

Good morning. I know we are not in “Christmas” anymore, but as ever, I am still in wonder at the Incarnation. One of the nice things about being Catholic is that we ponder the Incarnation frequently – particularly when saying the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.

The Incarnation – that moment when God “set his tent with us” – stops me in my tracks, all the time. One can never get to the end of it. This incredible piece of music brings it home, with a pulse, so quiet – O Magnum – and it never loses its focus. Gorgeous.

By the Cambridge Singers. Directed by John Rutter.

O magnum mysterium,
et admirabile sacramentum,
ut animalia viderent Dominum natum,
jacentem in praesepio!
Beata Virgo, cujus viscera
meruerunt portare
Dominum Christum.
Alleluia.

O great mystery,
and most admirable sacrament,
that animals should see the new-born Lord,
lying in a manger!
Blessed is the Virgin whose womb
was worthy to bear
Christ the Lord.
Alleluia!

That man might be fed from this Incarnation, first lain in a food holder…
