Joe the Plumber conquers the press? 2017-03-16T16:55:18+00:00

Big family doings through Sunday and part of Monday will have things quiet around here. Be well!

Hey, do you think Obama and Ayers ran into each other, once in a while?

Meanwhile, the press cannot be happy with the reality (and the anger) they have helped to create:

From Iowahawk, who is pulling no punches:

Politicians — Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, et al. — obviously have to put up with some rude, nasty shit, but it’s right there in the jobs description. Joe the Plumber is different. He was a guy tossing a football with his kid in the front yard of his $125,000 house when a politician picked him out as a prop for a 30 second newsbite for the cable news cameras. Joe simply had the temerity to speak truth (or, if you prefer, an uninformed opinion) to power, for which the politico-media axis apparently determined that he must be humiliated, harassed, smashed, destroyed. The viciousness and glee with which they set about the task ought to concern anyone who still cares about citizen participation, and freedom of speech, and all that old crap they taught in Civics class before politics turned into Narrative Deathrace 3000, and Web 2.0 turned into Berlin 1932.0.

Godwin’s Law! you say? if the jackboot fits, wear it.

Are you a Joe? Say it proud. Leave it on every goddamn newspaper comment section and online forum. Let these pressroom and online thugs know you won’t stay silent when they try to destroy the life of a private citizen for speaking his mind — because for every one of them, there are a million Joe Wurzelbachers. And for that we should all be thankful.

They don’t want to investigate Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac because such an investigation might undermine their narrative that deregulation and Wall Street greed prompted the mortgage meltdown. When conservative suggest that government programs might have precipitated the mess, for example, one leading Democrat accused such heretics to the media narrative of racism.

Similarly, when Joe the Plumber upset the Obama campaign’s middle-class narrative, Joe Biden savaged the citizen because his team “simply can’t tolerate an outspoken citizen successfully painting the Democratic ticket as socialist overlords.“

What is it about those on the left, including some very intelligent and thoughtful people, who get whipped into a frenzy any time anyone takes issue with their ideas? What accounts for their repeated attempts at character assassination of their critics?

UPDATE: Media spend more time investigating Joe’s tax problems than Barack Obama’s. In what kind of nation, do the media investigate critics more than candidates?

It does indeed seem like there is the press could be checking into if only it were curious. Remember when they called Bush “incurious” and said it was such a bad, bad, thing? Now, the press can’t muster any curiosity about much of anything beyond, “how did Obama get to be so great,” and “Acorn? Never heard of it.”

Some Joe the Plumber satire from Brutally Honest:

Thankfully, the media is investigating this phenom and the more we learn about Joe the plumber, the less credible he’s becoming. Discrediting items our friends in the press have revealed thus far include the following tid-bits:
* His membership in a radically racist church for more than 20 years, a membership he’s since renounced.
* His friendship with that church’s racist pastor, a friendship that inspired Joe to write a book called “The Audacity of Pipe (Cutters)”.
* His first home was funded in part by a friend currently under federal indictment for an illegal kickback scheme.
* His girlfriend had a pretty radical history and has only recently revealed her pride in America now that Joe is a celebrity. Sources also reveal that her senior year thesis is racially tinged and rooted in identity politics.
* Persistent rumors detail his relationship with an unrepentant domestic terrorist, a person whose backed up toilet launched Joe’s plumbing career.

Yeah…good thing he’s not running for president, that Joe.

Lorie Byrd:

Why is the media going all out to destroy anyone that might possibly stand in Obama’s way and to ignore any story that might show him in a bad light? Why are the media throwing away their last shreds of integrity, honesty and impartiality by going so far in the tank for Obama?

Don’t they know the financial crisis combined with Bush’s unpopularity created an atmosphere in which their victory is almost guaranteed? Don’t they know they are leading in all the battleground states now? Don’t they know the transition team is already meeting and the party is already planned? They are behaving like the only way they can win is through intimidation, lying, fraud, and throwing more money into the race than in the history of American politics and every time I think they have done all they can do, they go that extra mile. “I am Joe the Plumber; I am Spartacus!” Catchy!
