This has got to be the epitome of sleaze.
Drudge is reporting: NEW YORK TIMES is looking into the adoption records of the children of Supreme Court Nominee John G. Roberts, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The TIMES has investigative reporter Glen Justice hot on the case to investigate the status of adoption records of Judge Roberts’ two young children, Josie age 5 and Jack age 4, a top source reveals.
Wow. Glen Justice…”hot on the case” tracking down the birth parents of these two adopted children…because why?
I wonder if Justice is a member of the barking moonbats club which suggested on the night of Jack Roberts Big Dance that the Roberts “aryan” children were possibly reconstituted nazis.” And made vague references to The Boys from Brazil.
They were just joking, of course.
As am I! :-)
Standard background check my patootie – does anyone believe for one second that this were a Clinton (or any Democrat president) SCOTUS nominee with adopted children that such an intrustive “background check” would be undertaken. Is it too much to expect, at this point, that a nominee’s CHILDREN, at least, would be off-limits to dirt-digging?
No wonder it is becoming so difficult to find good people to take positions of responsibility, these days. Anyone not in lockstep with “the party” is subjected to deplorable and unseemly public scrutiny.
But I can’t believe the public would be sympathetic to this investigation. Rather, I’d guess their sympathies will go toward the Roberts family, and once again, the Fourth Estate is failing to cover itself in glory.
UPDATE: Sensible Mom is so angered, and disgusted, by this new tactic of the NY Times that she has quit her self-imposed summer vacation from blogging to write a scathing and wickedly good rant.
So rather than sending a reporter to investigate Air America, an organization that did something as immoral as taking money set aside for the poor and infirm, constituencies they and all liberals claim to protect, they choose to delve into an extremely personal and emotional issue that has no bearing on John Robert’s nomination. And in the process possibly throw the children’s lives into upheaval.”
You’ll want to read it all. My own thought: why aren’t other justices speaking up, where are the GOP (and decent Democrat) congressmen and senators? This “fishing trip” is so unconscionable, such a deplorable and stinking intrusion, and such a low maneuver, that I think it would behoove people in public life to get out there and OBJECT to it…because what’s being done to the Roberts can be done to anyone of them…really, it’s done to anyone who is not (as I said) in lockstep with the party. But it’s NEVER done to media folk, or their children. It shouldn’t be done to anyone.
Or maybe it’s not being done at all…maybe the story is simply being floated to detract attention from the fact that the Times is refusing to cover a tremendous misuse of funds story affecting Air America.
Hey New York Times…have you NO DECENCY? Finally, have you NO DECENCY?
Michelle has TONS of links, and excerpts from letters to and from the NY Times on this issue. The Times is saying, “we’re not investigating this, Drudge is wrong! Bill Keller is an adoptive parent! Yadda Yadda!” But Sensible Mom is saying:
According to Brit Hume on Fox News, his sources told him that the NYT was asking lawyers how they could get access to the sealed adoption records to see if there was anything worth reporting. In other words, a fishing expedition…they had no reason or right to ask for access to sealed records. This is the modis operandi for the liberal press when “researching” a conservative’s biography.
Meanwhile, liberal moonbats I will not link to are making “Boys from Brazil” suggestions again and Bainbridge has more. Still not voices of outrage from our elected officials, though.
UPDATE: Jimmie at Sundries Shack is writing letters, and letting us see them. He’s giving NYT’s response a good spanking. Meanwhile, Kay Baily Hutchinson has become the first Senate voice to speak out against the press’ behavior toward Roberts and his family.
