I’ve had dozens of notices from people informing me that they’re seeing this notice regarding the site: The Webmaster is aware of it and writes that he’s checked the diagnostics and everything is clean, but he will keep trying to hunt down the source of the notice, because he doesn’t want to scare you folks away! Read more

A great pleasure of doing In the Arena for the Diocese of Brooklyn as been getting to know Msgr. Kieran Harrington, the Vicar of Communications for the Diocese. New Evangelization Television, which produces, among other things, the only Catholic nightly news broadcast in the country, (Deacon Greg Kandra is its busy News Director) is one of Msgr. Harrington’s concerns. Why do I bring him up? Well, it’s 2:24 AM, and I am oddly tickled that one Monsignor has tipped me... Read more

As the Obama Replaces McChrystal with Petraeus story broke, Instapundit Glenn Reynolds noted that MoveOn.org had quickly removed its long-standing “General Betray-Us” ad, and snarked: Have you noticed how these people are always airbrushing? It’s kind of an admission that their stuff won’t sell if they tell the truth. . . . They are very busy bees. Over at Ann Althouse’s site, one comment began the arduous work of re-writing history on the internet with this forehead-slapper: The same guy... Read more

This is really charming, and comes our way thanks to reader Jenny, whose son graduated from Harvard University (motto: Veritas ) last month, with this young woman, Mary Anne Marks. Ms. Marks, a classics and English joint concentrator hailing from Queens, NY, chose to give her salutatory address in Latin; and manages to be engaging and lively with this “dead” language: You can read read the speech, here. Come the fall, this gifted, confident and serene young women will head... Read more

Before and After Stem Cell Treatment/Photo AP (Via) This is fantastic news: Dozens of people who were blinded or otherwise suffered severe eye damage when they were splashed with caustic chemicals had their sight restored with transplants of their own stem cells — a stunning success for the burgeoning cell-therapy field, Italian researchers reported Wednesday. The treatment worked completely in 82 of 107 eyes and partially in 14 others, with benefits lasting up to a decade so far. One man... Read more

Every once in a while, I just have to watch great dancing. I love all of it, but I admit, I particularly like to watch men dance. Today, let’s appreciate John Travolta. Although he is no long whippet-thin as he was in his dancing heyday, John Travolta is still so light and free in his dancing that even encumbered by “angel” wings under a trench coat, he’s just so worth watching: There have been more talented, more technically proficient dancers–although... Read more

On NPR this afternoon, I heard a report that some military folk on the ground at Kandahar believed McChrystal would get off with a tongue-lashing for the Rolling Stone piece, particularly since it was his underlings who made the most controversial comments. I tend to think more along the lines of Victor Davis Hanson: I think conservatives are making a big mistake citing all sorts of legitimate reasons for McChrystal to have expressed frustration. I agree with almost all of... Read more

Bookworm has a very good piece up, wherein she wonders at how our president can run the gamut of emotional and intellecutal circuits, from A, as is Apathy, to umm…A, as in Anger. Health care bill: Apathetic. (Yeah, it passed and, yeah, he made the talk show circuits, but he was a follower, not a leader on this one. The momentum came from the Democratic Congress.) The Green Revolution in Iran: Apathetic. (Obama had the opportunity to topple the Iranian... Read more

Having enjoyed Jaden Smith’s performance in The Pursuit of Happyness, (a film I liked very much) but uninterested in his current flick, The Karate Kid I had somehow missed the pop-controversy over whether or not young Jaden is a likable kid, or a brat. He seems quite alright, to me. In fact, the kid seems better than alright; he may be that Hollywood creature so rarely-seen-in-public, the product of a happy childhood. Jaden Smith strikes me as an intelligent and... Read more
