… “How can you call yourself a Catholic?! Don’t you keep up with the news, what about the sex abuse scandals, and all those corrupt Bishops? Haven’t you ever read a Dan Brown novel or watched Borgia? Aren’t you embarrassed to be associated with such a debauched religious institution?!”
I’m sure we’ve all heard it. I brace myself for the questions every time another priest makes headlines. Then I let it roll off my back like water off a duck. It has nothing to do with not putting my trust in princes; I’m not immune to feeling disappointed in people. I just don’t let it bother me because every scandal is a small affirmation to the immortality of the Catholic Church. What other institution can you name that has weathered so much slander and gossip over the centuries yet continues to be a beacon of truth and faith for its 1.196 billion followers?
Heresy and her heretical bedfellows come and go while the Church remains; proof to me that Catholicism is the one true faith.
And now, a cute kitten…
