UPDATE!!!: MAXIM’S, BELIEFNET AND CALABASH: TGF QUEST FOR WORLD DOMINATION CONTINUES . . .
Look for an excerpt Cathleen’s God Factor chapter profiling the marvelously iconoclastic Sandra Bernhard on Beliefnet.com. It’s posted — at last! You can find it HERE
• If you’re in the Chicago area and don’t have plans for the cocktail hour today (Wednesday, May 24), please join God Girl and the fabulous Rick Kogan for “Conversations with Extraordinary People,” an ongoing program of the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs. Beginning at 6 p.m., Rick will interview Cathleen at Maxim’s, 24 E. Goethe, with a book signing to follow. Admission is $20 and includes drinks and noshes. For more information (or for a last-minute RSVP), please call (312) 742-1748.
• If you happen to be in the neighborhood of St. Elizabeth parish on the south coast of Jamaica (Treasure Beach, to be specific) later this week, please join God Girl and two dozen other authors and musicians for the Calabash International Literary Festival. It’s an unbelievably groovy (with growing street cred in the literary world) free festival that draws some of the top writers, poets, actors (Delroy Lindo!), and musicians from across the Caribbean, Africa, the UK, and the United States and thousands of Jamaicans (and other intrepid fans) for three days of readings, spoken word, poetry slams and concerts at Jake’s the grooviest bohemian resort in this hemisphere.
Cathleen will be on a panel with Christopher John Farley (a WSJ editor and author of a new book about Bob Marley’s early years) and the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist/critic Margo Jefferson at 3 p.m. Saturday.
One Love!
