On July 9, 1896 William Cameron Townsend, the American missionary and linguist, is born in Riverside County near Corona, California . In 1942 Townsend would establish what has become the largest evangelical missionary agency in the world — Wycliffe Bible Translators — named for the first translator of the entire English New Testament, the 14th-century British theologian John Wycliffe.
