Magnificent.

U2’s new album, “No Line on the Horizon,” doesn’t go on sale until March 3, but, like so many rabid fans out there, I’ve been fortunate enough to hear the whole thing.

And it is, in a word, magnificent.

I’ve heard tell that the band set out to make modern sacred music. If that’s true, they succeeded.

The album is full of powerful, ethereal sounds and rhythms woven between silken thought streams meditating on the divine, love, the divine love, change, hope, what matters most, what endures. It’s ridiculously beautiful.

And make no mistake: It also rocks. Big time. Bigger and louder and more powerfully than the band has in a long while.

I wanted to share one lyric that has, already, become a prayer for me.

It’s from the song, “Magnificent.”

Amen and hallelujah for these songs of praise.

I was born
I was born to sing for you
I didn’t have a choice but to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to
I give you back my voice
From the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise…

Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar

Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
