Vasco’s Blessing

last year on mother’s day, we took vasco to st. sabina rcc in chicago for a blessing from pastor fr. mike pfleger and the prayer warriors there. during the service, vasco spiked a fever, crawled onto my lap (for the first time) and fell asleep. the next day he was diagnosed with a raging case of malaria. it was two weeks to the day after he’d arrived from malawi. we later learned that malaria has a two-week incubation period. had he fallen sick in malawi, he would more than likely not have been allowed to travel. and, as he nearly died when he had malaria just after we met him in malawi in october 2007, he may very well have perished before we could get him to the states for heart surgery.

today, i discovered that i had an audio version of the blessing he received at st. sabina that morning almost a year ago. i’ve posted it with some pictures of v on youtube. wanted to share it here, too, as you all have for so long and continue to pray for our miraculous boy.

last week, his doctors took him off of all medication! he’s now our healthy, normal (miraculous) boy.
whole. thriving. joyous. an immense blessing to all who know him.
he scored his first goal in soccer last week. it brings tears to my eyes each time i see him run on the
soccer field at full-tilt, determined and fearless. a year ago, he couldn’t run. he couldn’t play soccer.
he could only watch from the sidelines and hope some day he might be able to play like the other kids.
this fall, his soccer team – the fat pandas – won the town and area championships and went on to regionals as well.

talk about a cup running over!

god is so good. all the time. god’s timing is such staggering grace. and i love that god has a sense of occasion – mother’s day. come on, now!

please continue to keep our family in your prayers. we will be traveling to malawi in the coming months for our adoption hearing and then, our miracle child will be ours, legally and forever.

with deep thanks and love,
c&m&v
