As Abortion (and I) Approach 50, Its End Is Near!

Let us pray for the end of abortion. To end the killing of the most vulnerable and innocent among us. Let us pray that the womb, once the safest human space, becomes so again.

January 22nd marks the 49th anniversary of federally legalized abortion in Roe vs. Wade. Its end is near. Thank God!

Abortion is evil. Abortion willfully destroys innocent human life in its most vulnerable state—legally. As someone born in 1973, every year of my life marks another year of legalized pre-born infanticide.

In my lifetime over 63 million babies died due to an abortion. Over 63 MILLION! The population of California as of 2021 sits at around 40 million. The population of state of New York sits at 20 million. In forty-nine years, abortion has killed more people than the current population of California and New York combined. How does this statistic compare to individual counties? In forty-nine years, abortion has killed more people than live in Italy (60,367,477), South Africa (60,041,994), and Peru (33,359,418) and Venezuela (33,359,418) combined (62,064,372). All this death in the name of a women’s supposed “right to choose”… God help us all.

Hopeful Signs of Abortion’s End

In the mist of all this evil, there’s hope. Abortion “rights” are currently under attack in states like Mississippi and Texas. In Texas, SB 8 forbids abortion after six weeks or detection of a heartbeat and allows for civil lawsuits against abortion doctors who violate the law. Most pregnancies go undetected in the first six weeks, so this law essentially bans all abortions. Furthermore, the Supreme Court sided with Texas on December 10, 2021, in a case filed by abortion providers.

Most promising (and most concerning for abortion supporters) is Mississippi’s current case before the Supreme Court, Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This case seeks to ban abortion after 15 weeks of gestation and also asked the Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade. During oral arguments in December, the Court’s “conservative” justices (Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Clarence Thomas) signaled the Court’s willingness to overturn precedent and questioned the legality of Roe vs. Wade. The nation awaits the expected ruling in July.

Prayer to End Abortion

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, yet I rejoice that You have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, and never to stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected, and our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice not just for some, but for all, through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Let us pray for the end of abortion. To end the killing of the most vulnerable and innocent among us. Let us pray that the womb, once the safest human space, becomes so again. Please pray that abortions END at 49 years. I know, I know… Even when (if) Roe vs. Wade is overturned, the states will get to decide for themselves to limit or allow abortions. One step at a time. For now, let’s remove the biggest piece from the board (Roe vs. Wade).
