…about abortion during the debate.
Rather than harking on the same, routine talking points, he should have talked more about his personal opposition to abortion.
He should have reiterated his support for the Hyde Amendment.
He should have pointed out that overturning Roe v Wade would be a costly process that has a far greater chance of failing than it does succeeding. He should have capped that off by pointing out that even if we were successful in overturning Roe, the issue would just go back to the states, and abortion would still be here.
He should have then pivoted to the fact that, under the Obama administration, the abortion rate is at an all time low.
He should have talked about reducing the demand for abortion by addressing issues of poverty and lack of healthcare.
He should have restated his and Hillary Clinton’s dedication to expanding coverage, increasing wages, creating jobs, providing childcare, and mandating paid maternity leave.
He should have attacked the GOP for being more focused on rhetoric than action. He should have pointed to their absolute opposition to all the things I just mentioned. He could have even taken the opportunity to throw in some talk about the seamless garment and whole-life ideology.
But…he didn’t. And that’s what really matters.
Still love ya, Tim Kaine. But you really could have knocked that one out of the park.
