See The Good

See The Good May 1, 2015

TNJ-31.fwI am always amazed at how many Pastors, and “christians,” want to point out all the bad in the world. They can spend hours telling people how bad they are, how bad the world is and how all this bad proves we are at the ‘end of days.’ Yet I wonder, is it our role to point out what we see as bad? Think about it for a second, times up.

In the narrative of John, John shares these words: “God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.” With that being said, I find it silly [and a waste of time] to focus our thoughts on what we think is bad in this world.

I love what John wrote, the idea that the Divine came to us to put the world right. Many still wonder how, how do we do that without pointing to the bad things people do? After all, if we know what is bad we can correct it, right? Wrong. If all we do is talk about the bad, the bad is in our minds and hearts; we focus on the bad. The bad becomes something we search out. Now, some will say that they search out the bad with the idea of correcting it, except we never truly correct it. We just dwell on it. Jesus wanted us to focus on the good things, the love things, the grace things, the mercy things. You see, if all we do is see bad things, we twist our view of the world and see only bad. But if we are truly focused on the Divine, we seek out the good. we focus on the good, we embrace the good. In Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians he reminds us, “If all you do is pour on the guilt, you could very well drown him in it. My counsel now is to pour on the love.”

Stop looking for the bad, we’re drowning. Instead look for the light and love of the Divine in everyone.
