In a recent article by Bryan Roberts’ at Relevant Magazine, he offers us 7 things to remember about politics as Christians. Here’s that list: 1. Both political parties go to church. 2. Political talk radio and cable “news” only want ratings 3. Those who argue over politics don’t love their country more than others. 4. Thinking your party’s platform is unflawed is a mistake. 5. Scripture tells us to pray for our governing leaders (2 Tim 2:1-4) and to respect... Read more

Chris went from being on staff at church to teaching in the 8th Grade. For some of us, the mere idea of teaching in a Junior High School is terrifying enough and would easily yield the sort of depressing symptoms listed above. What if I were to add to this change the fact that Chris found himself teaching at the “School from Hell” as a New York Post article by Susan Edelman described it. She said the school is “a hellhole where teachers get combat pay – they are cursed, assaulted and sometimes groped….” Read more

Jesus’ most famous prayer includes these words, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” To pray for God’s will to be done means that there will be times when God’s will will not done because love involves choice. This means that God will not revoke our freedom even when we act in unloving ways. If God were to revoke our freedom every time we used it in evil ways, we wouldn’t be truly free. But God respects the integrity of our freedom, even when we use it in unloving ways. Read more

*** This blog post comes to us from my friend Derek Ouellette. He just launched his brand-new blog and I highly recommend that you check it out, follow him, and read his stuff! (Kurt) If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time you would have asked yourself at some point, “does my prayer matter?” And if you’re like me and countless other people I’ve spoken to, you would have sat down across the desk of a spiritual leader... Read more

FROM GREG BOYD AT REKNEW: “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”  Colossians 2:16-17 If we believe the whole Bible is inspired, how do we reconcile the Old Testament with the self-sacrificial, enemy-loving God revealed in Jesus Christ? In this past... Read more

Resurrection is the central theme in Christianity. The New Testament goes out of its way to make this clear. Just as Christ rose from the dead in a physical body to inaugurate the new creation, so Christians will rise from the dead to restored bodies in the renewed world. I embrace this as truth as the center of the Christian hope. Read more

And for those of us who grew up... Read more

I appreciate the ministry of Greg Boyd and his new website, Reknew.org. Recently, he took on a question that often comes up when dealing with the nature of God. Is God violent and wrathful? Here’s and excerpt. I encourage you to read the fullness of his response on Reknew as well: Ananias and Sapphira? This couple said they had given all the money they’d made from a piece of property to the apostles when, in fact, they had kept some... Read more
