In a time when people can be persecuted because of their faith in God, many of our young people are afraid to live out their faith. In fact they don’t want anyone to know they have a walk with God. They don’t mind living out their faith at church, in youth groups or at their favorite seminar. With all these absurdities, how do we encourage and teach our children to live out their faith?

In the greatest guide for life, we see a commandment in 1 Thessalonians 1:8 in the Bible. It states, “Live your faith out loud, speaking and living the message of Christ for all to see.” We are to live out our faith in the Creator of the Universe, speak the message of Christ and live the message of Christ. We are to do all these not in our closets, but we are to live out our faith both inside and outside.

In our last post, we discovered that teaching our children to love God is all about the truth that God created humans with a need for God, and only God can fill that void in humans. This is why parents teach their children to love God. This post will examine ways to teach your child to live out their faith.

Lifestyle: Teach your child to live out their faith through their lifestyle. The life of God we receive at salvation is a counter culture life. It’s a lifestyle that is 360 degrees from the culture. In a world that teaches hatred, teach your child (ren) a lifestyle fueled by the love of God. A lifestyle full of compassion and guided wisdom, as stated by Colossians 3:12, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Values: Teach your child to live out their faith through their values. The kingdom of God operates through godly values that are eternal. Such values as holiness, forgiveness, humility, thankfulness, faith and more. These values turn on the light of God in a dark world. When our children live out their faith through these values, they stand out as God’s chosen people that are marked for His own glory.

Calling:Teach your child to live out their faith through their calling. God’s calling is the purpose He creates a person to participate in His redemptive work on earth. Some are called to be parents, some are called to be police-officers, some are called to be teachers and the list goes on. Whatever that call is, it is important that your children understand this key truth from Colossians 3:17 and live it out, “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Our world is in need of revival and the people of God are positioned for such a time as this. Teach your children not to be silent in living out their faith in God. Your child’s faith is a balm for the times we live in. Your child’s faith is a glue for our broken world. Your child’s faith is a stabilizer in times of uncertainty. And above it all, your faith is a living guide for your child’s faith! As you continue to live out your faith parents, your children gain the traction to make their faith impactful in our world.
