Touch of Angel’s Wings

Touch of Angel’s Wings June 23, 2011

I’m working of the message of the sheep and goats where, at the end, many people are surprised to find themselves as either one.  The sheep, of course, are those who offered drink, food, clothing, hospitality and compassion to Jesus by offering to those around them.  Those classified as the goats did not.

As I was pondering these words, dealing with multiple phone calls and an onrush of urgent emails, watching as the church secretary popped in and out with various items that needed immediate attention, someone in the hallway caught my eye and I waved him in.

It was a church member whom I don’t get to see too often as his work keeps him out of town most weekends.  He had not meant to come by, but had “absentlymindedly” made a couple of wrong turns and found himself in the church parking lot and decided to pop in and see if I had a couple of minutes.

He started the conversation with a great story of God’s provision for a church from his home state that had recently burned to the ground. I found myself encouraged just by hearing this.  We caught up on other things and I found myself getting a little tearful about a situation I was facing.  I started to apologize for my emotional overflow, and he responded, “Clearly this is why God sent me here today.  Just to give you a place to talk and unload a bit.”

He stayed only a few minutes longer, reminded me of his daily prayers for me and for the ministry of this church and then left.

Today, this good man offered a cup of refreshing water to a thirsty soul.  I sensed the touch of angel wings as he left. I hope I can do the same to all I see. This is indeed the kingdom of heaven.

Truly, the kingdom of heaven is all about us.
