Read it and Weep

Read it and Weep February 6, 2015

The Pontifical Council for Culture in Rome, presided over by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi and made up of cardinals and bishops who are all men, are discussing “Women’s Cultures: Equality and Difference” from February 4-7, 2015 in mostly closed-door sessions. There are enough contradictions in that sentence to end my analysis right here.

By all means, read the rest of this excellent analysis of this group of old, skirted and out of touch men meeting in a restaurant that features art of naked women in bondage and then proclaiming things like this: “The physicality of women—which makes the world alive, long-living, able to extend itself—finds in the womb its greatest expression. (p. 5).” Yes, women are just wombs for rent and men are????  Well, perhaps they are just mindless baby-daddies, indiscriminately populating those holy wombs.

Yesterday, I put up a blog post calling for a tampon drive as a way to support women around the world, so many of whom do not see even the basics of decent living. I am wondering if there should be a tampon drive outside where this august council is meeting–perhaps they need to swim through an ocean of feminine hygiene products (preferably used ones) so they can even better appreciate the female womb.

Yes, just disgusted.
