Wednesday morning, second week in. Our reporting team is sleeping poorly. Most of us wondering why we signed up for this gig. We came as volunteers. We all love the church.  We’re full of opinions about what is happening. Be sure the listen to last nights “MethoNerds Roundtable” podcast. You’ll hear our hearts.

And the tension is high this morning. Multiple protests are expected, and some will probably shut down the conference. We expect blocked legislation.

Legislation that would soften the increasingly hard and punitive stance toward the GLBTQI community comes to the floor this morning. Legislation that permits the US to make it’s own contextually relevant decisions about matters affecting only us comes out this afternoon. Please read here for further information–it’s important to understand this.

Both are expected to be voted down by the hard-line, immovable, sure-they-are-right-about-everything conservative wing of the UMC.

And then the protests will start. And each protest will grow in severity and passion. Arrests expected.

I’m not scared. I am more grieved. For lack of a willingness to acknowledge that others have legitimate viewpoints and ways of seeing things, this great church is about to crumble.

As I said in last night’s post, this may be full of typo’s and errors. Just let me know what needs to be fixed. No time for good edits.
