In a blatant act of plagiarism, I have lifted some words from an extraordinarily popular blog post which was written by an anonymous woman who sees herself as a highly educated, theologically conservative pastor’s wife.
The blogger describes herself, before making her biblical case for Trump, as one who “CANNOT, however, allow myself ignore the principles laid out in the Word of God for situations such as the political debacle Americans have unfortunately found themselves in.”
One small piece of her extensive, biblically supported defense of the GOP candidate is below, but with one tiny exception. See if you can find it:
Whether we like it or not, America is drowning and the Hitler boat, though less than desirable, is the only viable option for rescue we have to keep us afloat for the time being.
I am not arguing that Hitler is a great man.
I am not even arguing that Hitler is a good man.
I am arguing that in the words of Christ Himself, God can use an individual that is “not one of us” to further His purposes and protect His people.
I am arguing that in this time, and in this particular circumstance as the only nominee for Republican Party, Hitler is the RIGHT man to serve as President of the United States.
As I read her blog and the numerous of supportive comments, I saw even more clearly the fear that grips the Evangelical world and that informs their unbreaking embrace of today’s iteration of yesterday’s Hitler, the ONLY ONE who can save the nation.
Bible-believing Evangelicals are convinced that, under continued Democratic leadership, Christians will be silenced.
As she stated (bold typeface hers)
You will have lost the right to act as a martyr when she comes after your right to speak freely about issues such as homosexuality and the exclusivity of the Gospel because you had your chance to do something about it and you did NOTHING.
Fear, so much fear, coupled with hyperbolic, frothing-at-the-mouth hatred of Mrs. Clinton.
No concern that Hitler has threatened to limit (or eliminate) the freedom of the press for any who might disagree with him or treat him unfairly. The concern is that Christians, by far the majority of people in the US, might not be able to speak freely.
Biblically speaking, then, the vote must go to the person who will do everything possible (although not necessarily legal) to silence voices that support those in the LGBTQI community and also to the one who can justify the sequestering of all adherents of Judaism, whoops, sorry, the Islamic faith, to be found within our realm and kill as many Jews, whoops again, Muslims, around the world as possible.
That way, the Christians will keep their voices heard, heard by the suppression of others, by the elimination of perceived enemies. There will be no extra-mile cloak carrying here.
Like many others who have long sought to center their lives on Jesus, I am nearly ready to leave behind any description of myself that suggests that I am a Christian if this is what Christianity means.
May God have mercy on our collective souls.
