“One of the many welcome consequences in learning to ‘read’ our lives into the lives of Hannah, Samuel, Saul, and David is a sense of affirmation and freedom” – Eugene Peterson

You see, we don’t have to conform to a preconceived idea of morals, squish into a mold of the perfect religion, or have excellent mental health before we are admitted into the presence of God. He accepts us as we are. We are taken seriously, so significantly, that He writes us into His story.

God is the Leading Actor

When we take this viewpoint, we are no longer the leading actor in our lives. God is.

I don’t know about you, but I have dabbled in the theatre a bit, and having the lead role is much tougher than the role of supporting actress. Allowing God to lead frees me to enjoy and not worry.

If we believe that God is the leading actor in this play called Life, then it’s much easier to step aside and let Him lead.

In the story of Lazarus, we see Jesus take center stage. John sets the scene with a large cast: Lazarus is in the tomb. His sisters, Mary and Martha, are there along with the high priest, Caiaphas. Gathered at the tomb are friends and family of  Lazarus when Jesus enters the scene. John 11.

Even though John names five people in this version of Lazarus’s rising, he keeps Jesus center stage. I pray that it will always be that way on whatever stage we find ourselves.

Finding Freedom

Knowing God is in control offers the freedom to take stage directions with flexibility, deliver lines with grace, and listen to His voice for motivation.

Encountering God by cultivating a relationship with Him through prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking Him daily allows Him to reveal Himself to us through various experiences. Showing us that He is in control as the lead.

This is your shining moment to put Jesus on display. Remind the world about this lead actor and author – He’s noteworthy and the One to follow!
