2) Community

The once-a-week feeding, beautiful though it is, eventually exposes itself as lacking in true nourishment. Most of the time, we resort to blaming. The church is not doing its job! I don’t feel ‘the same’ as before. We are much more apt to allow ourselves permission to feel the victim rather than take ownership of what’s next.

The next rung of the ladder is a small group. Now, we are meeting twice a week (Sunday and small group day), we are discussing things, digesting the food in a weightier and more balanced way. We start to see how this might have an affect on my own life, practically. The power of community is significant and we feel more ‘full’ as we share our struggles, pray, argue, laugh, and cry with others who are looking for more nourishment.

Additionally, a mentor is a great option at this juncture. We have to be careful, with mentors and groups alike, not to fall prey to group-think and demand the kinds of food those around us prefer.
