How Does Ḥāmaḏ Affect MSG, Halloween, And America First? October 31, 2024

The big news this week continues to be the fallout over Mr. Trump’s recent rally at MSG (Madison Square Garden) and the controversial message the speakers sent to America; particularly the comments of a comedian who called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage.

Other speakers continued to verbally belittle Latin Americans and Hispanic citizens. Of course, Mr. Trump disassociated himself from the comedian, but the comedian’s message was on par with Mr. Trump and his campaign’s previous statements and ongoing agenda.

  • Prideful
  • Racist
  • Hateful
  • Selfish

However, the most surprising twist is Mr. Trump’s description of the rally as a “lovefest.” Mr. Trump’s supporters have forgotten the basic teachings of Jesus to love our neighbors and to care for the least of these (Matthew 22:34-40; 25:40.)

The rest of Mr. Trump’s speakers did not condemn Mr. Trump’s anti-Christian propaganda despite claiming to be Christians themselves; Mike Johnson, Tucker Carlson, and the culture Christian Elon Musk.

Unfortunately, too many believers preach and believe in popular Christianity instead of biblical Christianity. Biblical Christianity goes beyond positive vibes and good morals because biblical Christianity is based on selflessness instead of the me-first popular Christianity.

What is selfish?

Selfish is defined as, “Concerned exclusively or excessively about oneself; seeking one’s own pleasure or advantage over that of others.” The Bible is clear about the corruption of man’s heart and his selfish nature (Jeremiah 17:9-10, Matthew 15:18-19.)

As children celebrate Halloween tonight, they will venture from house to house hoping to get candy and goodies to satisfy their selfish wants.

Man’s nature is the opposite of God’s sacrificial and giving nature. God shows us that love is giving more than it is receiving (Luke 6:38, Acts 20:35.) Selfishness is part of our fallen nature as humans, selflessness comes from God’s divine nature (John 3:16.)

When God’s people practice the selfish ways of the world, we have the spirit of antichrist, because selfishness is the opposite of God and His nature. Putting others first is a basic Christian teaching that has been replaced by a selfish “me” first theology in many churches today.

The first-century church was known for its generosity and taking care of others, both Jew and Gentile, regardless of status (Acts 20:20, 27, 36, Ephesians 4:28.) The early church leaders spoke out against selfishness and selfish ambitions because those are self-serving and don’t build the Kingdom of God (Romans 12:20, 2 Corinthians 8:9, Galatians 2:10; 5:14, Ephesians 4:32, 1 Timothy 5:8.)  The Apostle Paul remembered his Jewish education and the warnings about not being selfish.

āmaḏ

The world became corrupt after mankind’s sinful lust for more lead to the fall in the garden (Genesis 3:4-5.) This lust for more lead Cain to kill Able over God’s acceptance of Abel’s offering, Cain was selfish and greedy unlike Able who sacrificed and gave his best to God (Genesis 41:1-16.)

Selflhishness leads us away from God and towards the image of Satan. This selfishness spread from the garden into all of God’s creation. God saw the wickedness of man’s heart and regretted His creation (Genesis 6:5) One of the Hebrew word for selfish in the Old Testament is ḥāmaḏ and it can also mean, “Desire, delight, lust, or covet,” depending on the context it is used in.

God understood His creation had become selfish and wasn’t reflecting His image.  Again God gave His people commands to warn them about selfish desires and tendencies of their hearts (Deuteronomy 5:6-21.)

God’s ways aren’t like this selfish and greedy world that is never satisfied (Ecclesiastes 5:10.) God’s people were taught to be generous and selfless (Genesis 4:9, Deuteronomy 15:11, Psalm 119:36, Proverbs 21: 13.)

This principle continues into the New Testament, even after God sacrificed His Son for others (John 3: 16.) The other Son of David taught His followers to always put others first (Matthew 5:41, Mark 10:45.) Jesus had a humble servant’s heart that contradicted the proud give me what I want ways of the world and even God’s own people. We are to seek the will of God over our selfish wants (Matthew 26:39.)

America First

Nothing contradicts the teachings of Jesus more than putting ourselves first and seeking our own best interests, it is this thirst and desire to be great and be first that caused Satan to become proud and get kicked out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12-15, Luke 10:18.)

One of the pillars of Maga is putting America first over other nations and peoples; the America First campaign is both anti-Christian and anti-America. I am young enough to remember the lessons I learned in my social studies classes in school.

It is there where most of us learn the foundations of American history, government, culture, and ethics and how they benefited the America. The United States did not become a great nation by greedy or racist selectivity. Despite what Mr. Trump and Maga believe, America isn’t the garbage can of the world; it is a melting pot of culture, people and beliefs.

Scripture tells us that heaven will also be a melting pot of every nation and tribe and tongue (Revelation 7:9.) Once again Mr. Trump and Maga proudly display their anti-American and anti-Christian agenda by vilifying and dehumanizing immigrants.

No one ever wins by being selfish, they’re just happy for a while. Bob Brinner writes, “For the believer, winning isn’t “reaping,“ winning is “sowing.” Don’t be deceived by a false savior who promises that he is the one who will make you and America “win,“ focus on heaven and not this temporary life.

As the great preacher Charles Spurgeon preached, “Till we get rid of selfishness, we shall never feel constant joy.” God’s ways are not like this selfish world, they are the opposite and so should ours and America’s. America will never be a great nation as long as it is ḥāmaḏ!
