Yes, today is May 4th… and you know what that means? It’s “Star Wars Day!” For Jedi fans around the world, it’s a day to celebrate Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, and all the other Lucas creations we’ve come to love.
What makes today even more special is that this month marks the 35th anniversary of the release of Star Wars, and fans seem as excited as ever about that galaxy far, far away.
So WHY May 4th?
May 4th is dubbed “Star Wars Day” because of the infamous pun “may the force be with you” . . . altering the words to “may the fourth be with you.”
It is celebrated around the world despite the original film, Star Wars: A New Hope, having premiered on May 25th 1977.
Obsessed fans all over the world are set to use the day as an excuse to stage movie marathons at home and “wage impromptu light-sabre fights.”
So WHAT exactly should you celebrate on Star Wars Day? Entertainment Weekly highlights 10 specific aspects of the still powerful force.
And HOW can you express your Boba Fett love in creative ways? John Serba at The Grand Rapids Press shares “7 ways to properly celebrate Star Wars Day.”
#3 is my favorite: “All day, speak like Yoda. Diction, you shall reverse. Throaty, your voice must sound. Annoyed, your friends and co-workers will be, yes, yes.”
