Instead of putting the entire Church at risk then, for the errant behavior of a single individual, doesn’t it make more sense to call the police and alert them to the criminal activity of the individual in question? That way, the criminal can be punished and the harm to the victims can be addressed. Is that not a duty and obligation in order to promote the common good?
Sure, you didn’t want this cup, but it was handed to you anyway. Our duty to love our neighbors demands this, no? Don’t the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?
Or are we any different from all of those folks in the parable about the Good Samaritan, that just looked the other way? Say it ain’t so.
