Titled A Big Heart Open to God, it’s chock full of quotes that will make you nod your head in approval, even if some of them will catch you by surprise. Quotes like, (more…) Read more

The occasion was the first Eucharistic Congress ever held in the Diocese of Knoxville. Why now? It was the Jubilee celebration of the diocese’s 25th Anniversary. The theme? His Presence + Our Faith + Families Together In Christ. Some of Jesus’s friends showed up too. (more…) Read more

As you may know, today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. I found a pretty good short piece on the finding of the Holy Cross over at Magnificat. But as usual, I went looking for more. There was a time when a news story like this would invigorate me. Valdimir Putin in the New York Times, writing with poise about the de-evolution of US foreign policy, the purpose of the United Nations, and the pathway to peace in Syria. I think he studied the speech delivered to the UN by Pope Paul VI, back in the Fall of 1965. Take a look. (more…) Read more

Just put together an American 501(c)(3), nonprofit corporation, call it the Syrian Emergency Task Force, and get busy swaying the opinions of seat holders in the House and Senate, writing op-ed pieces in the big papers, etc. One of my senators, Bob Corker (R-TN) was totally hoodwinked by them. But they made a mistake in hiring a person who lied about having a doctorate. Oops. (more…) Read more

It’s no surprise that Joe Six-Pack is a car guy. I’ve held forth on the fact that I enjoy planes, trains, and automobiles before. Truth be told, I’m a bit of a gearhead. So when I saw the story from the Catholic News Service that a priest up and gave his old car to Pope Francis, I was pretty jazzed. It’s a 1984 vintage Renault 4, with 186,000 miles on the clock. Or maybe it’s kilometers. At least it’s the... Read more

I don’t normally tune in to Charlie Rose on PBS, but seeings how tonight’s guest is Bashar al-Assad, I will be. Tune in, as it should be an interesting conversation. Hopefully my local PBS station will be carrying it, but you never know. I want to get a look at the bad guy, and here what he has to say to Charlie. Lord knows I’ve heard about as much about the Syrian Free Army as I can stand. Did you... Read more
