Video: EHSS returns for the National Anthem

Video: EHSS returns for the National Anthem September 6, 2011

Here’s a video of Signature Sound’s recent performance at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. [Update: A higher-quality version has been uploaded in the mean-time, so I’ve embedded that link instead.] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL6mwJcpxok?rel=0&w=560&h=345 To my ears it sounds like they lowered it a half-step from the usual key. Anybody else hearing the same?

"Damn, that was a challenge to read it. Now I am regretting it!"

  • I thought it seemed slower too. Threw me off a bit watching it live, but its growing on me.

  • Really? The tempo felt the same to me, but the key just struck me as different.

  • I heard the lowered key as well.
I watched it at a gathering at a friend’s house, most of the people there being completely unfamiliar with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound. Quote from one person after they finished: “Well, Christina Aguilera sure didn’t teach them how to sing that!”

  • A friend of mine was there and he and his wife both called me and told me how great they sounded but neither said anything about it sounding lower there live.

  • True that!

  • It almost felt more deliberate, if you know what I mean.

  • Nate Stainbrook

I noticed the lowered key as well… Maybe the are just a little more comfortable in that key.

  • Well it would be hard to notice unless you were very familiar with the original and had a good sense of pitch.

  • They’ve lowered a couple of their songs; “Then Came The Morning” was lowered after Devin joined.

  • I noticed that too. That makes more sense because Devin’s voice is naturally lower than Ryan’s.
