Rejoice, evangelicals! Tim Hawkins has a new video. In this clip, he imagines what it might be like if various artists sang the National Anthem. They’re all great, but my favorite is Bob Dylan at the end. Enjoy! Here’s a sneak preview where Tim bares his soul and explains some of things that are NOT in this new DVD: Read more

I’m in the process of transferring computers and have noticed that Chrome can be more flexible than Firefox. For example, I discovered the website Tubechop while using the computer with Chrome and successfully snipped a video clip. When I switched back to the computer with Firefox, it wouldn’t work with the site or play the clip. I’d like to make use of this site in the future for sharing video, so it made me wonder if other Firefox users would... Read more

This came as a definite surprise. Gold City seemed to have found a nice groove with Keeton solidly holding down the tenor part. At the same time, I don’t see how this particular change could have proceeded more amicably, and I can’t think of a better reason Keeton could have had for leaving the group. In his open letter, he said that he wanted to launch a non-profit organization to help children victimized by abuse through music and the arts.... Read more

Two songs that aren’t Christmas-y, but together I think they make an appropriate Christmas couplet.  In this post, we are considering nothing less than the reason for the world. I hope you will join me in the discussion. In a slight change of pace, I’ve written this article for another blog, Retuned, whose proprietor Matt Linder asked me to contribute something when he saw some of my writing. This is a young website that was created to explore all genres... Read more

Welcome to my first post of 2013! I actually published this by accident for a few seconds last night because I typed in January 1st, twenty-TWELVE in the calendar slots. Oops. New Year’s resolutions: Instead of making new ones for this year, I thought perhaps I should see how well I did with last year’s. The answer is… hmmmmmm. 1. Reading the Bible in a year: This was a disaster. (more…) Read more

Some people like to include all recorded songs as potential candidates for year-end best-of lists. I’ve always restricted my pool to songs written and performed specifically for projects released that year. These are some of my personal favorite new southern gospel songs of 2012. I’ve provided links for listening where available. I wish I could have listened to and reviewed more projects. Somehow the year slipped away and I only churned out a handful. But I think I’ve come to... Read more

At this time of year, we celebrate the beginning of Jesus’ life on earth. But in an effort to make sure we don’t forget the grander story behind the story of Bethlehem, many Christians write and speak about how the manger is only the beginning of Jesus’ entire redemption journey. They see the shadow of a cross over the manger, reminding us of how Jesus was born only to die. This is true. And yet sometimes I wonder whether in... Read more

Click here if you missed yesterday’s Part I, in which I discuss clear pros and cons of the film,  Today we’re exploring pro-cons, important elements of the film that are worth talking about and not altogether good or bad. I’ll also offer some closing comments and look ahead to what we can expect in film two, The Desolation of Smaug. Enjoy, and if you still haven’t read the book, we’ll wait right here. It’s okay.
