Saints Of Darkness – Episode 3: Room In The Inn

Welcome to a new series I’m calling Saints of Darkness. It will run on Mondays from now until May 18th and feature folks who are doing really interesting, creative, and important social justice work. The series is available as a free podcast that you can stream from this site or download either from iTunes or Podbean and listen to later at your convenience.

++++++++++++++++

Mixing things up a bit today from the original schedule to bring you what may be my favorite interview of the series.

Don’t get me wrong.

I sincerely loved talking to everyone I had a chance to meet, but I really loved talking to Rachel Hester, Executive Director of Room In The Inn.

To be fair, I am a bit biased because Rachel was my babysitter growing up, but that really has nothing to do with why I enjoyed this interview so much. Her openness, honesty, dedication, and clarity of vision are amazing, second only to the wonderful work Room In The Inn does both at the incredible outreach center pictured above (seriously, if you live in Nashville, you must go see it….or better yet, go volunteer) and with it’s network of churches around town and across the country.

From her challenge to reimagine how we think about folks struggling with the chaos the comes with being homeless to her ideas for how we can not only love and serve them ourselves, but also teach our children to do the same, I genuinely left this interview feeling inspired.

And I think you’ll feel the same way after you listen to what Rachel has to say.
