It’s a Sign

It’s a Sign February 10, 2016

itsasignAs many of you know my son left for college in the autumn, my daughter is living in North Carolina, my husband Chuck’s oldest is married and his youngest is busy finishing up an advanced degree – which means we are officially empty nesters. For the first couple months I didn’t deal well at all, and to be honest I don’t know if I’m dealing well now or if I’m just getting used to not dealing with it.

Saturday night I laid awake listening to the deafening quiet and missing the doors slamming, their televisions playing and their fans humming. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super proud of all of them and I’m thankful they are alive and well, just with another mailing address, but the heart doesn’t always follow logical thinking. I finally fell asleep, my mind cluttered with thoughts, when I had a dream of a large hawk standing in front of me. The hawk actually spoke (I swear I wasn’t drinking) and it told me to look at how the wind is unpredictable. It could be a soft breeze or a tragic storm, but I had to accept that change was change and to make it whatever I wanted. I woke up and honestly thought it was a dumb dream. A hawk – talking to me about winds of change. Ooookay.

The next morning I was getting ready for work when I heard a hawk call outside and I opened the bathroom window to see it sitting on the mailbox looking towards the house. Not weird at all, right? I first panicked. We feed the birds and squirrels and hawks are predators and I was worried. But the hawk simply looked at me and flew away. That evening my husband and I decided at the last minute to accept a Super Bowl party invitation. It was an hour away and although we wanted to go, I had an early Monday morning, but we ventured out anyhow. After being there for a few minutes I realized I forgot my water bottle in the car and went out to get it. On my way back up the driveway a hawk flew right in front of me, so close I felt the touch of its wings on my face.

According to Higher Intuitions Oracle – Hawk is a protective, intuitive and a leader. Hawk shows a sense of responsibility and intelligence. Hawk may be telling you to look at the big picture before you react. Stop paying attention to every single tiny detail as it helps to alleviate the weight that you feel around you and your life. Hawk wants you to work on adding some impulsiveness to your life instead of ritualistically walking through life as if it is a recipe that needs to be followed exactly. There is a difference between being irresponsible and impulsive, so don’t fret that Hawk is telling you to change, he only tells you to free yourself from narrow minded people and small thinking. It’s time to be free.

So sometimes a sign is just that, a sign. Or a hawk in my case.

We have signs all around us. From our guides, our angels and our loved ones on the other side, but we so often chalk it up to a weird coincidence. In need of a sign? Simply ask for one. Maybe you too will get a talking hawk. 🙂
