The Joy of Love

The Joy of Love April 11, 2016

You ever get that thing where you’re asked to review Pope Francis’ new exhortation and it’s groovy and you like it…

but then you remember Pope Benedict…

…and you’re trying to be all, “hey, not every Pope can be a witty, concise, revolutionary theologian” but now all you can think about is Intro to Christianity and Deus Caritas Est and Called to Communion and every essay Ratzinger ever published for Communio…

and you’ve still got 200 pages of Amoris Laetitia to go and your eyes go blurry not from fatigue but from a justified sorrow and you start to cry and ask God why if he is Mercy itself does he not just a) let you die or b) get Benedict to write again and then you remember how you were once all…

…but now you want to give up or start a sedevecantist movement purely on the basis of literary brilliance or break into Benedict’s home and hold his cats hostage until he starts ghost-writing for Pope Francis?

Yeah, me neither, that’d be weird.
