Has the United States ever had a Mormon president?

Mormon Leaders

There are Mormons throughout the state of Utah in political office, mainly because the Mormons are the majority of citizens there, but does it matter if we have a Mormon in a political office? What about a Mormon as president? Why should we care since they cannot bring their religion into the politics? There is nothing wrong with Mormons being politicians, in fact Mormons are very conservative and stand against many of the evils in this nation like abortion, but why are the overwhelming majority of Mormons rejected for political office (outside of Utah)? What is it that bothers American voters about voting for a Mormon? Is the reason that American’s don’t vote for Mormons because of what they believe and don’t believe? What is so different about their beliefs compared to traditional Christianity?

Mormon Beliefs

The greatest issue about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) may be who they believe Jesus is. For one thing, Mormons believe and teach that Jesus is the brother of Satan and they are the two sons of God and are thus, “spirit brothers.” They believe that Jesus was created and they believe that like all humans, they were spirit before being born into the flesh, although there is nothing in the Bible that states this. If Jesus is God, then how can He be a created being? If a created being died for our sins, we don’t have the right Savior to die for our sins. The payment for our sins by a created being is insufficient to satisfy the wrath of God. The Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan were created and then placed in a probation period and if they passed, they become gods and that they acquired divinity by the works that they do while on earth, even though the Bible teaches no one can be saved by works (Eph 2:8-9). My question is, since the Bible states Jesus was without sin, why would He need to go through a probation period? Apparently, Satan failed his probation but Jesus didn’t, so Jesus is thought to have become a god, having passed the test. How aberrant can one be from the essential truths of the Bible?  Very!

Book of Mormon Errors

There are so many errors in the Book of Mormon that it’s hard to know where to begin. One example is that the Book of Alma, which is part of the Book of Mormon, it says of Jesus, “The Son of God cometh upon the face of the earth. And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem” (Alma 7:9, 10). We know this is false because the Bible states that He was to be born in Bethlehem, exactly as the Bible prophesied long ago, and this is only the tip of the iceberg because since the Book of Mormon has been written, it’s undergone over 4,000 revisions from the original version written in 1830. Tragically, when the Mormon Church trains missionaries they must give this as a testimony: “I testify by the Spirit of God that I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that the Book of Mormon is the Word of God.” This is clearly contrary to the biblical doctrine that we cannot add too or take away from the Word of God (Deut 4:2; Rev 22:19). Solomon warned, “Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar” (Prov 30:6).

Was God Married?

Joseph Smith claims to have had a revelation from God at age 15 but one must wonder, which god? Was it the god of this world (2 Cor 4:4) or the one True God? It must be the former because Joseph Smith taught that the universe is governed by a head god and his council, as it says, “The head God called together the Gods and sat in grand council to bring forth the world…In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the gods; and they came together and concocted a plan to create the world and people it” (Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, PP. 348-49). It is so obvious to most readers of the Bible that this is so contrary to Genesis 1 and the Gospel of John 1. Even more, they believe that God has goddess wives as it states, “This doctrine that there is a Mother in Heaven was affirmed in all plainness by the First Presidency of the Church” (Bruce R. McConkie, Apostle, Mormon Doctrine, p. 516). This seems strange due to the fact that God is spirit (John 4:24).

Mormon U.S. Presidents

How any Mormons have ever been United States presidents? None. How many have run for this office? There has been one; a Mormon presidential candidate in Mitt Romney who was the Republican nominee, but he lost, and not by a narrow margin at all. Mitt Romney is a successful businessman and a political novice, and early in his career, he was in a tight race to represent Massachusetts in the Senate against Democratic incumbent Ted Kenned, but Romney lost the election and that has been an ongoing issue with politics as the nation is not quite ready to install a Mormon as president or in other political offices, at least outside of Utah.

Conclusion

I know that Jesus tells us that we must worship God is spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Without the Spirit of God, we won’t know the truth when we see it and without the truth, the Spirit will be absent too. We must not create a god in our own image, after our own likeness, and after the imaginations of our own minds as many cultic religions have done. That is idolatry, and as I wrote before, if you don’t have the right Jesus, you don’t have the right Savior. Jesus was not created but has always existed. Read what the Apostle John wrote in John 1:1-2 that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God” and by Jesus, “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3), so if Jesus created all things, and the Mormons believe Jesus was created, we have a huge discrepancy because He would have been part of the “all things” that He created and He could not have created Himself because He would have had to exist prior to this. Pray for those who are blind, witness to those who are deceived, and perhaps God will open their eyes so that they might see the true Son of God, Jesus Christ, Who was, Who is, and Who is to come (Rev 1:4, 8; Rev 4:8). That doesn’t sound like anything created to me!
