“Islam: Truth and Beauty”

Seyyed Hossein Nasr

I’m both exhilarated and frustrated to announce that Seyyed Hossein Nasr, one of the most distinguished Islamic scholars and thinkers of the past century, will be speaking at Brigham Young University on 6 September.

Why would this frustrate me?  Because bringing him to BYU was, to a certain extent, my idea, and because I helped to actually get him to come . . . and because I’m going to be in Turkey while he’s at BYU.

Arrgh! AND we are working right now at the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative to publish his translation of a work by Mulla Sadra. It is about to go to typesetting. As someone who was also involved in suggesting him as a speaker, it is ironic that I too will miss out on his visit, and for the very same reason. Arrgh!

    And there’s that, too.

I specifically asked them not to have his visit occur during the first half of September. I guess they had no alternative. I HOPE they had no alternative.

I’ve been gone much of the summer, so I don’t know what went into setting the date.
