The Arabian Book of Mormon
One suggested route map for Lehi’s trail

Today’s reading is 1 Nephi 16.

It’s in this chapter that Ishmael — who, with his family, had joined Lehi’s group on their journey away from Jerusalem — dies.  And he’s buried in a place called Nahom.

For a number of reasons, I believe the mention of Nahom to be one of the most impressive bull’s eyes in the Book of Mormon.

See here, for example, for a brief overview of the topic.  And, for a brief filmed look at the actual place, see here.

In fact, I think that today is as good a day as any to put in a word for the 90-minute film Journey of Faith, produced some years ago by a team led by my friends S. Kent Brown, Peter Johnson, and Nick Gasdik.  Much of it was filmed on location in very distant parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

If you haven’t seen it, I hope you will.  And if you hadn’t heard of it, now you have.

There’s also an accompanying book — beyond, of course, the Book of Mormon itself.

Journey of Faith will, I think, help to bring to life for you the travel of Lehi and his party, from Jerusalem down to the Red Sea and along the coast of Arabia to the Old World land of Bountiful.
