“Wearing a Hijab, a Young Muslim Boxer Enters the Ring” April 26, 2017

It was deeply sad to see the long slow decline of Muhammad Ali owing to Parkinson’s Disease, which was likely brought on by boxing-related head trauma.  (Wikimedia Commons public domain)

 

I’m not a big boxing fan, let alone a fan of women boxing.  I’m troubled, even repulsed, by the idea of people training their bodies to near-perfection (in terms not only of strength, but endurance, agility, and so forth) and then going into a ring where the unavoidable consequence (if not the actual goal) is damage to those bodies.  (I also dislike tattoos for analogous reasons — reasons that long predate the Church’s counsel against getting them.)

 

That said, though, I rather admire this young woman, and I wish her well:
