St. Therese's Prayer for Priests

I think we need this now, more than ever.  I found this on a prayer card they give out at St. John the Evangelist Church in New York City…

O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep your priests within the shelter of your sacred heart, where none may touch them.

Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch your sacred body.

Keep unsullied their lips, daily purpled with your precious blood.

Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of your priesthood.

Let your holy love surround them, and shield them from the world’s contagion.

Bless their labors with abundant fruit,

and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here on earth,

and in heaven, their everlasting crown.

Mary, Mother of Priests, pray for priests and vocations to the priesthood.

– St. Therese of Lisieux

  1. Dear Deacon Kandra,

This prayer was prayed by the Servant of God, Msgr. Bernard John Quinn (1888-1940) every day.

It is still prayed each week at the Little Flower Novena, begun by “Father Quinn” in 1925 in St. Peter Claver Church.

You can find a copy of this prayer on a Holy Card displayed on his website

    Thank you.

    Mary Jane Theresa Ryan

  2. This is a beautiful prayer. I pray that millions find and use it. We need prayers. Decades ago I belonged to the Association of Priests of St. Therese. Msgr Vernon Johnson hosted me and sent a letter with me to ask that I be permitted to offer Mass in the room where our Blessed Mother spoke to Therese. I wonder if this Association still exists? I Googled it and was sent to Amazon where I could get a copy of a Quarterly–but it sounds like the Quarterly is no longer published.

  3. frater Ninian Doohan, O.Praem says:

    Dearest Father Bob,
I have old copies of Sicut Parvuli (from the second hand book shop of the O.Carm. Church in Dublin) and was also looking for the Association. I found this on the internet if it helps you:

Association of Priests and Laity of St. Therese of the Child Jesus
Founded by Monsignor Vernon Johnson in 1939 to spreald the teaching of St. Thérèse by the publication twice a year in the review “SICUT PARVULI”. Editor: Monsignor Canon Terence Stonehill K.H.S. Secretary: Mrs. Marjorie Davis. 68 Northdown Park Road. Cliftonville Margate. Kent CT9 3PT.

The Association has an annual retreat-pilgrimage to LISIEUX every year in August. There is a monthly Day of Recollection for priests at St. Vincent’s Convent. Carlisle Place. London on the first Monday of each month from October to June.
