Cultural interaction in India

There was a lot of reaction on my piece on Raj Thackeray and may felt the Biharis will decimate their culture. Here are my thoughts:

Since our independence, North Indians – specifically the Allahabad crowd ruled India. South Indians and the others were almost not welcome.

And majority of this crowd was either with lawyers background or elitist.

Even the business was North based for the most part.

Over the years this has changed.

One of the things that has changed all this is Knowledge economy. Suddenly the education oriented culture of the SOuth had a way to assert itself. Now, instead of SOuth Indians going to north for jobs and becoming the butt of jokes.. the reverse happened.

This is a natural process.

In the last 2-3 decades, a lot has happened because of this migration – for one the lines of demarcation are weaker between the North and South.

I have many friends who are married to SOuth Indians. And the intermingling has helped everybody.

In my personal view, it is a FITTING reply to Max Mueller for his Nonsensical Aryan Invasion theory! What he hoped to achieve with those theories, our generation will annul with a simple tool.. economic migration!

South India has a lot of talent but it could certainly do with some of the elements of risk taking from the Punjabis. Punjabis in turn are great, but they could definitely learn from South in terms of emphasis on education and knowledge – hopefully that would reduce the female infanticide there!

Biharis and UP-ites may be the most reviled, but anyone who has ever studied for Indian CIvil Services and visited JNU even once and who has also seen the motivated Biharis studying for the IITs – would know that they bring a level of dedication to their cause UNMATCHED in any other state! It is not that Biharis do not realize the mess they are in – which is why they work harder and more passionately than the most! No wonder everyone of us have heard stories of at least one Bihari student in JNU who would burn himself with a cigarette to keep awake because he had to study for his IAS exam and couldn’t take a break!

Yes, they also bring a “raw-ness” that other elitists feel is bad for their “culture”. But if a “refined” culture can be decimated by a “goonda-ish” culture then such a refined culture has no strength to exist!

Indian culture has survived NOT because of protectionism.. it has survived because it had no protections! THAT is its greatest strength!

Its easy to sit in a locked room all your life alone and keep shouting that you are the greatest.. its quite another to go out meet others and then others say that you are the greatest!

Indian culture was that guy who went out or rather LET others come in.. and had a straight “cultural duel” – if you will – and survived handsomely!

Standing water will rot. Moving water will thrive. That is history’s greatest lesson. Whether you like it or not, that is how it happens.

So, if Raj Thackeray is the modern day role model for Maharashtrian culture-vultures, then I am afraid, they are preparing their culture’s coffin as we speak.

Good luck with that.

this article is superb and is answer to what happened in maharashtra, but what is needed is not only Isolated effort by only Raj Thackerey to become liberal. It is the Whole Nation as a whole to wake up. When biharis in Assam are killed, why no one is raising any issues.

really, our politicians , who claim to be our leaders, prtectors, saviours , whom we look upon as our Messiah, they in turn led down the aspirations of Indian Public. They play regional politics, Religious Politics, but all are of Hate and Violence. Look what happened in 1992 when L.K.Advani took out the Rath Yatra, the violence and killings in Ayodhya and sbubsequent bombing in mumbai has shaken the threads of our Secular fabrics.

It is again and again errupting may be in Godhara riots or similar to that.
Our politicians are not allowing us to Foret and Forgive the past, and taking us to pre Mughal era , when Hindus were occupying vast areas from Afghanistan to Burma and further but were attacked and forced out of that place by invaders, slowly the Bharat was shrienking lost Burma, lost shri Lanka , Lost Afghanistan, lost Pakistan, and now on the verge of loosing the Arunachal, Kashmir, and in future who knows , what wil be left only Delhi where there will be discussions of past how great India was.

But instead of looking at the present issues of NonGovernance, or MisGovernance, due to lack of clear mandate in many states and at the Centre,
the reason being Multiparty rule, Politicians are trying to divide the attentions of people further by creating the Fear psychosis among the majority.

Politicians are ensuring that enemies of India have success in weakeing India from within.

Why blame Raj Thackerey. He is just following in the shoes/steps of his predecessors.

Unless Two party system of ruling India is evolved, India will be getting fractured at the hands of such petty politics and politicians.

Army will be fighting at borders, people will be toiling and paying taxes, but politicians will not leave their game of Divide and Rule…
Enemy was ruling us with this Magical formula. But we are ruing our own brothers ,We are adopting this formula to suck blood of our brothers , why not throw the whole system and evolve a new system. For that one has to say STOP ! TO THIS NONSENSE . One Lady tried to do it, Late Mrs.Indira Gandhi had vision, courage and love for India, but she was painted a devil by our same people. Our Leaders who blamed Mrs.Indira and removed her , are facing similar situation whihc Mrs.Indira tried to solve in 1974 by imposing Emergency. Even Pakistan has hope of revival. As one man rule is going to bring the change. but India , as is poised to stay , has to face chaos only . Here Rich are getting richer, and Popopulation increase puts burden on resources, every one moves where he wants, does what is fit for survival. The end result is the imbalance of growth and poverty, wealth among the miseries.

Our leaders are not solving the problems in totality but try to get rid of problem in isolation. be it Taslima, be it RamSetu, be it Ram Janmabhoomi, or be it or Naxalites issue. Poverty and religious hatred will make India a burning Ghat if Leaders of all the parties are not uniting and solving the issues.
