The Bible/Religion and Sci-Fi at SBL and/or AAR?

The Bible/Religion and Sci-Fi at SBL and/or AAR? November 29, 2010
Shouldn’t this T-shirt say
“Trust me, I’m The Doctor”?

Next year will mark the reunification (of sorts) of the Society of Biblical Literature and American Academy of Religion annual meetings. They will be simultaneous and in close proximity, if not strictly speaking “one conference.”

Nevertheless, one of the areas that overlaps the two organizations’ domains is sci-fi, and the use of Biblical and religious motifs and material in recent science fiction.

I wonder how many people would be interested in there being a session on this, and if there is significant interest, how we go about making it happen. Input from those who have spearheaded the creation of new sessions, either as long-term projects or as one-off events, would be greatly appreciated (even if you aren’t a science fiction fan yourself!). But I’d also love to hear from anyone who thinks that a session on a topic like this would be a good idea!
