Star Wars as Religion

Having posted yesterday about Doctor Who as religion, I was struck when today Hemant Mehta shared this video, “Darth Vader is My Savior”:

It does actually make a good point towards the end, as well as being amusing, and so it’s worth watching.

And given the bit of anti-Obama religious propaganda I shared earlier today, the picture below seems to connect the dots between all these recent posts, somehow (Via IO9):

I’m not ready to have the Sith claim Obama as one of their own. Can we have a version depicting him wielding a Jedi lightsaber?

UPDATE: See too the poster from a church bulletin board that Jim West shared – and leave him a comment to tell him how awesome you think it is!

Ok, so I hang out with a lot of sarcastic people and I can’t quite tell here: is Mr. West for real?

He is kidding at least some of the time, and exaggerating others, and completely serious still others – I think. It is so hard to tell!

Of course there is a sorta semi real/legitimized Star Wars religion. Check out
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jedi_census_phenomenon
for info on people claiming Jedi as their religion on census forms. Or look at how many people on Facebook claim it. Most are probably just messing about, but still…

So, if Aslan allows Obama to ride on Him, doesn’t that mean that Obama is on the right side? (Which in certain languages sounds like “the light side”.) So there! ;-)

Indeed, riding Aslan trumps the color of one’s lightsaber any day! :-)
